Case Study: CD had suffered a long history of chronic low back and leg pains. CD states he has always suffered general back stiffness with episodes of acute back and sciatic leg pains. CD states his back had been progressively deteriorating and noticed increasing stiffness complaining of a lack of flexibility. CD states his treatment had been initially sporadic, consulting either chiros and or physios depending on either how he felt or arranged by his local doctor. Continued problems, more intensive and prolonged treatments failed to improve his condition. Eventually his doctor arranged for a CT Scan then referred him to an Orthopedic Surgeon who recommended 'decompressive surgery and possible fusion.' CD was referred to Spinal Rehabilitation Group for opinion, which included recommendation for an MRI. During his initial consultation, he complained of severe and obviously, debilitating lower back pain with sharp shooting pains extending down his right thigh, leg and foot. He describes a heavy numbness sensation of his leg and foot. He complained of constant pins and needles extending down his legs and across his toes. In addition he reported weakness of his right leg and when walking found that he often missed a rising step tripping with his right foot. MRIs revealed a large sequestrated disc fragment with the appearance of a vascular bleed adjacent to the disc margin. Intensive treatment including daily Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, injections, high frequency electrically stimulated acupuncture, stabilization techniques and appropriate medication generated a return of displaced material and structural stabilization. Results have been amazing
